What Is a Clinical Observership?

A clinical observership is a structured, time-bound clinical shadowing experience that enables international doctors to observe patient care in real hospital settings. Depending on the department’s workflow, it may include observation in outpatient clinics, ward rounds, operating theatres/operative workflows, multidisciplinary meetings, and teaching sessions.

At Arcas Education, observerships are designed as goal-driven pathways. We align your specialty interests and learning objectives with the most suitable department environment and clinical workflow in Istanbul—so your time is focused, relevant, and professionally useful.

Who It’s For

These observership pathways are built for qualified doctors and internationally trained physicians who want to refine clinical direction, benchmark real-world workflows, and gain specialty-specific insight in a high-volume Istanbul ecosystem.

Most participants are postgraduate clinicians (residents, specialists, fellows, and surgeons). However, if your background is different, you can still apply—we assess fit based on your documents, goals, and the host department’s availability and policies.

Why Istanbul?

A global city with diverse patient flow and modern clinical infrastructure
Practical accessibility from Europe, the Gulf, and wider MENA
Strong multidisciplinary workflows across academic hospital environments
A realistic setting to observe high-tempo outpatient pathways and operative planning (department-dependent)

Most Common Questions

Find quick answers to common questions about clinical observership programs.

Is this hands-on clinical training?
Observerships are strictly observational. Activities depend on host-institution policy and supervision.
Can I get a reference letter (LoR)?
In many cases, yes—however LoRs are not guaranteed and depend on full attendance, professionalism, and supervisor discretion. 2+ weeks is strongly recommended; one week is typically not considered adequate.
Can I choose the exact consultant/surgeon I observe?
You can request a mentor environment and subspecialty focus. Visit Clinical Imersion Program for more.
Which departments are available?
Availability varies by season and capacity. Common requests include surgery, ENT/facial plastics, OMFS, plastics, orthopedics, internal medicine, and more.

Yes—subject to feasibility and your learning objectives.

Yes—once the host department confirms feasibility, you receive an official offer summary and next steps.
How are fees calculated?
Fees depend on track length and departmental requirements. Your final quote is confirmed after departmental review.
Do you help with visa and travel?
We can share practical guidance and recommended logistics. Visa decisions are made by the relevant authorities and remain the applicant’s responsibility.
Can I get a certificate?
Yes—upon completion, participants receive a certificate of attendance issued by the host institution
What is the deposit for?
It activates department routing, file preparation, and coordination—and is deducted from your total.
