How this day fits the series
Day 3: Orthognathic Osteotomies
Join this module on its own or combine it with Day 1 Rhinoplasty and Day 2 Extraoral Approaches as part of the 2–3 day ARCAS Cadaver pathway.
Who it’s for
Maxillofacial (OMFS) and craniofacial / plastic surgeons (and senior residents/fellows).
Designed for surgeons managing dentofacial deformity and secondary orthognathic cases who want structured, cadaver-based training they can apply directly in their own operating theatre.

What you will gain
Translate cadaveric practice into confident orthognathic surgery – from single-jaw Le Fort I and BSSO to more complex segmental corrective cases.
Orthognathic cases
- You are an OMFS, ENT, plastic or craniofacial surgeon – or a senior resident/fellow – managing skeletal discrepancies, malocclusion or facial asymmetry.
- You want more predictable Le Fort I, BSSO and ramus osteotomies instead of “hoping” through difficult cases.
- You regularly see Class II/III, open bite, vertical maxillary excess or combined maxillary–mandibular deformities in your practice.
- You prefer structured, step-by-step cadaver training over ad-hoc “observe and copy” learning.
Orthognathic osteotomy skills
Plan and execute Le Fort I osteotomies with controlled down-fracture, mobilisation and mini-plate fixation.
Perform BSSO with safe split technique, segment control and stable setback/advancement sequencing.
Indicate and carry out VRO / inverted-L osteotomies for challenging ramus and asymmetry cases.
Integrate occlusal planning (splints / IMF concepts) with intraoperative sequencing and team communication.
Avoid bad splits and nerve injury while achieving symmetric, rigid fixation with plates and screws.
Cadaveric orthognathic work
- Step-by-step Le Fort I: exposure, osteotomy design, down-fracture, mobilisation and fixation.
- BSSO: ramus exposure, sagittal split, segment manipulation and fixation sequencing.
- VRO / inverted-L: indications, controlled ramus cuts and strategies for postoperative stability.
- Repetition of key steps at 2-surgeons-per-cadaver stations to build real operative confidence.
How this cadaver intensive is structured
This course is built as a complete learning journey, not just a single day in the lab.
You prepare online, clarify details in a live Q&A, then spend a full day in the fresh-frozen cadaver lab: a short recap, followed by step-by-step orthognathic osteotomies and fixation sequences.

Most Common Questions
All three modules are built for practicing surgeons who need more than occasional workshops – they need realistic cadaver dissections, repetition of key steps and honest discussion of complications. Each day combines focused online preparation with full-day fresh-frozen lab work, so you arrive ready to operate and leave with a clear plan to translate what you learned into your own practice.
