How this day fits the series

Day 2: Extraoral approaches to the facial skeleton

Attend this day alone or bundle it with Day 1 Rhinoplasty and Day 3 Orthognathic Osteotomies within the same cadaver series.

Who it’s for

Maxillofacial (OMFS), ENT and plastic surgeons (and senior residents/fellows)

Ideal for surgeons treating facial trauma, secondary deformity or reconstructive cases who want structured, cadaver-based training they can directly apply in their own operating theatre.

Group size & support

Small, high-focus group – planned for 12 surgeons

Hands-on training is organised as an intimate group (around 12 surgeons), working 2 per cadaver under close faculty supervision, with ongoing case discussion and support via the ARCAS WhatsApp group.

What you will gain

Translate cadaveric practice into real surgical capability – from reliable extraoral access to full corrective jaw procedures.

is this course for you?

Extraoral access

  • You are an OMFS, ENT, plastic or craniofacial surgeon – or a senior resident/fellow – treating facial trauma or deformity.
  • You want more reliable extraoral access for orbital, ZMC, mandibular and condylar fractures instead of working through limited windows.
  • You are revising malunions, non-unions or secondary deformities where poor exposure compromised the result.
  • You need safer, wider access for tumour resection and reconstructive plating in the midface and mandibular regions.
  • You prefer structured, step-by-step cadaver training over ad-hoc “observe and copy” learning.
  1.
what you will be able to do after this course

Extraoral access skills

  1. Plan and execute extraoral incisions for the orbit, zygoma, midface and mandible using clear indications and surface landmarks.

  2. Achieve wide, stable exposure that respects facial nerve and vascular anatomy in trauma and reconstructive cases.

  3. Reduce and plate orbital, ZMC and mandibular fractures through reproducible corridors you can use immediately in your own theatre.

  4. Approach condylar and TMJ pathology with nerve-sparing preauricular and retromandibular techniques.

  5. Confidently choose – and justify – the right extraoral access for trauma, secondary deformity and oncologic cases.

what you will work on in the cadaver lab

Extraoral dissection & exposure

  • Orbital rim and floor exposure with infraorbital nerve preservation and preparation for fracture reduction and reconstruction.
  • Zygomatic arch and ZMC exposure to allow accurate reduction and plating in complex midfacial trauma.
  • Preauricular and retromandibular approaches for condylar and subcondylar access using nerve-sparing dissection planes.
  • Submandibular access to the mandibular body, angle and ramus, protecting the marginal mandibular branch and maintaining secure plating corridors.
  • Bicoronal access to the frontal bone, supraorbital rim and upper midface, including pericranial flap elevation when indicated.
  • Throughout, refine incision planning, layered dissection, haemostasis, exposure and closure techniques for stable fixation and acceptable scars.

How this cadaver intensive is structured

This course is built as a complete learning journey, not just a single day in the lab.

You prepare online, clarify details in a live Q&A, then spend a full day in the fresh-frozen cadaver lab: a short recap, followed by step-by-step extraoral dissection

You arrive ready: core anatomy, indications and incision design are covered in the online library before you travel.
Lab time is used for surgery, not lectures: the day starts with a brief recap, then moves quickly into repeated full approaches and fixation.
You leave with support: post-course WhatsApp follow-up helps you bring these techniques safely into your own operating theatre.
Step 1 – On-demand online theory
Focused videos recorded by the faculty cover extraoral access to the orbit, zygoma, midface and mandible. You can watch and re-watch them in the weeks before the course.
Step 2 – Live pre-course Q&A
One live online session to confirm indications, discuss tricky cases and fine-tune your plan for the cadaver day.
Step 3 – Fresh-frozen cadaver lab, Istanbul
Short recap in the morning, then a full day of supervised dissection. Working two surgeons per specimen, you repeat extraoral exposures and fixation sequences, including cases you rarely see even in residency.
Step 4 – Post-course clinical support
Dedicated ARCAS WhatsApp group and selected digital materials so you can revisit key steps and discuss real cases once you are back in your own OR.

Most Common Questions

All three modules are built for practicing surgeons who need more than occasional workshops – they need realistic cadaver dissections, repetition of key steps and honest discussion of complications. Each day combines focused online preparation with full-day fresh-frozen lab work, so you arrive ready to operate and leave with a clear plan to translate what you learned into your own practice.

Who is this course designed for?
This intensive is for OMFS, ENT and plastic surgeons – and senior residents/fellows – who already manage facial trauma and deformity and want more confident, reproducible extraoral access on fresh-frozen cadavers.
Can I join as an observer instead of a hands-on surgeon?
Yes. Observer places are available at a reduced fee. You will be in the lab for the full day, following the dissections closely and joining all case discussions and debriefs.
How many surgeons share each cadaver station?
For the hands-on Extraoral Day we work with 2 surgeons per specimen, rotating roles so that each participant can repeat the key approaches and fixation steps.
Is accommodation or travel included in the fee?
No. Tuition covers the cadaver lab programme, instruments, disposables, coffee breaks and lunch. Participants book their own flights and hotel; most surgeons stay at hotels within a short walk of Acibadem CASE.
Do you provide invitation letters for visa or study leave?
Yes. Once your seat is confirmed and payment has been received, we can issue an official confirmation / invitation letter on ARCAS letterhead for visa and study-leave purposes.
What is the cancellation or substitution policy?
Full cancellation and substitution terms are outlined in your official offer letter. In most cases, if you are unable to attend, a colleague from the same institution may take your place, provided we receive prior written notice
Can I combine this with the Orthognathic Day or Rhinoplasty course?
Yes. Extraoral Day is part of a 2–3 day cadaver pathway in Istanbul. If you plan to attend multiple days, please ask about current bundle fees when you contact the ARCAS team
